Sümeg

Sümeg Castle Hill, Sümeg, Hungary

Sümeg is a small town in Hungary north of  Lake Balaton. It boasts the fortress, Sümeg Castle, which is in better shape than some. Although, I will say it is a climb up that hill.

My couchsurfing host, along with her ‘son’ and his friend visited during a day trip early May of 2018.

We didn’t see much other than the castle area, which includes a full day’s worth of things to do and a great place for family.  We parked at Lószerszám Múzeum, a carriage and weapons museum, and walked past the I. Történelmi élménypark. This is a theme park set in medieval times which includes a knight’s arena and great knight’s hall. They hold knight’s tournaments and medieval feasts. There is also a petting zoo and stables.

Heading towards the castle hill we passed the restaurant Várcsárda on our right and on our left was the playground. Not your everyday playground; play castle, climbing walls, ox cart and horse drawn swings.

It was May 13, and a tall tree was decorated for May Day.
